Silver: signature engravable bar necklace, orbit hoops, wishing bracelet Gold: déjà vu double sided studs, chevron pave necklace, inspiration bangle Rose gold: chevron spear earrings, renegade bracelet, rebel pendant

So Stella & Dot, it seems like every time I comment on a stunning statement necklace the response is “thanks it’s Stella & Dot”, they have gorgeous colorful pieces and I want every single one of them. Recently my friend Kate approached me about Stella & Dot and I finally took the time to really browse the full collection and I was shocked at all the versatile pieces that Stella & Dot offers. Another thing that shocked me was how many pieces are really affordable, I mean look at all the great pieces for under $100 even as low as $19! Plus you are helping support another mom by purchasing through an independent consultant. Before becoming a mom I never got independent consultant companies, now I love them because they allow moms to help support the family while being flexible so they can be present for their kids.

After browsing the full collection I fell head over heels for the rebel Pendant in rose gold, it is such a bold and stunning piece. I wore my Stella & Dot rebel pendant yesterday and 4 strangers stopped me to ask about it and if rose gold is not your thing it also comes in silver and yellow gold. This is a well made piece that will last plus it is so versatile it is not going out of style anytime soon. I want to get the Inspire bracelet to wear with my rebel pendant and it’s only $39! Stella & Dot also has a whole new collection of engravable products so you can get the perfect personalized gift for yourself or someone on your list!

Girls Night Out Fashion Inspiration: Jeans and Pumps

Boyfriend jeans and pumps

I love jeans and heels, there is something so chic and fun about taking an everyday staple like jeans and adding a cute pair of pumps to them. While the idea of jeans and heels is not new to me, and honestly was a staple outfit choice pre-kids, it doesn’t make much sense while chasing kids. Now pumps are reserved for date night and girl’s night out, just another reason to be excited for a night out!

rackroom leopard shoes

Here are two looks I put together that have me planning a night out just so I can wear them. One thing I have seen everywhere is boyfriend jeans and pumps and when I saw the leopard print pump Bristol by XAPPEAL I knew they would be perfect for me to try with boyfriend jeans.  I have also been wanting to try the half front tuck with my shirts but had yet to find the perfect outfit where it worked. When this outfit came together I loved it and called my girlfriends at once to set up a much needed girl’s night out very soon.

foxcroft leopard print sweater

My go to for pumps and jeans has always been an open toed classic pump like the Jeannie by Maripe, these are timeless and comfortable and look amazing with a straight leg jean. I paired these with a fun animal print cardigan to add that bit of drama that I love and some great earrings.

So what do you think are you itching to schedule a girl’s not out, grab your pumps and jeans and head out for a nice night of girl talk? Yeah me too!

All these great shoes can be found at Rack Room at great prices, thanks Rack Room for the great shoe selection to feature!

Wrenn Jewelry, Unique and Beautiful Creations

wrenn jewelry

The term statement jewelry took on a whole new meaning when I first laid eyes on bangles from Wrenn Jewelry, I have never seen anything quite like them. Eye catching, vibrant and delicate all wrapped into one these bangles made of wire and druzy stones are gorgeous. These custom made bangles come in sizes to ensure the perfect fit. The Wrenn Jewelry collection does not stop at just bangles the collection also includes rings, earrings and necklaces.

Wrenn Jewelry

Every time I wear these Wrenn Jewelry bracelets I get tons of compliments and questions about where they came from. My set is the Aqua, Blue and Black Druzy Bangle Set and I just adore it. I plan on adding to my collection to add some more colors and get an arm full of gorgeous druzy stone bangles from Wrenn Jewelry.

So which ones catch your eye? Aren’t these pieces just stunning, be sure to keep them in mind for Christmas gifts.

What I Wore Real Mom Style: Introducing 3 Fashionable Ladies #RealMomStyle

Last week my dear friend Andrea featured me on her blog as part of a Tour Through Blogland where she featured 3 bloggers who’s fashion she loves seeing on Instagram. Instagram is one of my favorite places to share fashion and find fashion inspiration, I love it because it is what real women are actually wearing not photos of models who aren’t actually participating in life in those outfits. Don’t get me wrong I love all kinds of fashion but real inspiration from other fashionable moms is great!

Joining in the fun and keeping the ball rolling it’s my turn to answer some question and feature 3 more bloggers. So here we go…

Questions for me:

What am I working on? Right now I am working on a super fun Instagram Fashion Challenge with my friend Andrea, I can’t give too many details but we took the things we loved about the current challenges out there and we left the things we didn’t, added some of our personal flair… So watch for the announcement coming later this week.

How does my work differ from others in its genre? As a stay at home mom of 5 girls I find myself in the minority in my passion for caring about fashion and making it work for moms. I majored in textiles and clothing in college and fashion that works for my life is truly a passion of  mine that I love to share with other moms.

Why do I write/create what I do? Because I truly love fashion and sharing how I make my passion for fashion work while being an active and present mom.

How does my writing/Creative process work? This is a tough one as it depends on the day but essentially each day I evaluate what I will be doing that day and then create an outfit around one piece that jumps out at me. I definitely need to try things on and sometimes the outfit in y head works perfect and other times I go through several try-ons before I come up with what I want to wear, but I love all of it!

Now for my featured guests:

Hi That Chic Mom readers, my name is Sherry and I am the writer of The Life of the Party. I started this blog initially as a way to document past parties for my children, family and close friends and it’s since morphed into a blog that is primarily about fashion these days. I’m very passionate about design and find my brain constantly swimming with ideas of new and interesting color combinations and mixing of fabric textures and patterns. My fashion philosophy is to mix high end investment pieces along with more affordable items to create fabulous looks. You don’t have to spend a ton of money to create great looks.

Sherry is so fun to follow because not only does she know how to style a dress like no one else, but she does it in Hawaii so the backdrop is always breathtaking too!

My name is Emily of Supgar + Spice and I’m from North Carolina. I’m a 20-something wife and mother of two girls, Julianna (4) and Olivia (2). I am mostly a stay at home mom but I also work part-time as a lead STEM teacher during the school year at a faith-based after school program for at-risk youth in my community. I started blogging when I was pregnant with Julianna as a way to document my pregnancy. Now my blog has evolved into a place for me to share all of the things I love the most. My blog is a mix of fashion and style {on a budget}, family moments, food, beauty, and fitness.

This is my favorite fall look. Distressed denim, a cozy sweater, warm vest, and ankle boots. I love how this outfit looks put together and stylish while being comfortable for a mom on the go.

I love Emily because I could pull her fashion posts and put on any of her outfits and love it, her style meshes well with mine and I love the inspiration she provides as a fellow mom of little girls.

Finally I would like to introduce you to the guest co-host of Real Mom Style for the week Sarah-Jean of The Fashionable Housewife. Sarah-jean is a recent discovery of mine and I must confess one of my favorite things about her IG feed is all the cute pictures of her babywearing, what a great accessory her cute baby is! Be sure to check out what fashion she is showing off as she joins in for our Real Mom Style link up.

How to Style a Cape Coat

scandal cape coat

Cape coats are all the rage especially since Olivia Pope wore that gorgeous plaid cape coat on Scandal. You can get a similar cape from the Scandal collection available at The Limited, it is gorgeous. I had fun searching out some beautiful cape coats in all different styles, colors and prints. Here are 2 different ones and how I would style them.

I love that a cape coat can be dressy or casual, with boots or flats, jeans or dress pants, they really are so universal. I love both of these looks yet my personal favorite cape coat is this one I found on Amazon, it also comes in camel with black trim and it is truly gorgeous and on my wish list! SWOON!

So what do you think? Are you loving the cape coat trend? Check out all the great cape coats I found in my Pinterest board, so many cute ones to choose from at all different price points.

How to Avoid the Clothing Battle with Your Little Ones

Dressing little ones can be a huge headache, if your kids are anything like mine once they learn to speak they start to have opinions about clothes. Before that can be tough too, I always feel like I am engaging in a wrestling match when dressing my squirmy little ones. Besides the physical nature of dressing little kids it can be hard to find the balance between what mom wants the kids to wear and what they want to wear. Garanimals tried to create a solution to this problem buy creating a line of affordable mix and match clothing so no matter which top and bottom your little one grabs they will always match. So beyond having a wardrobe that is able to be mixed and matched here are a few tips for making getting dressed less stressful for everyone.

  1. Make clothes accessible. To help foster independence hang clothes on a low closet rack or put them in drawers or on shelves that your child can reach.
  2. Put away off limits items. Keep things like special occasion clothes and out of season items in a place kids can’t reach so you don’t have to fight the battle of why they can’t wear a swimsuit in December or a flower girl dress to the zoo.
  3. Only What Fits. Make sure the clothes they have to choose from fit, kids grow fast and once they decide on an outfit if it is too small they won’t care and you will be facing an unpleasant battle.

I spent the last few weeks trying on kids clothes and swapping out wardrobes while we put away summer and got out fall and it is exhausting, but worth every minute. Now I know my almost 3 year old can only put on seasonally appropriate clothes that fit and that means one less battle I have to fit.

Kids grow fast and that can really blow your budget so try to make smart purchases that would include items that clean up easy (100% cotton) so kids can be kids and not worry about ruining things. Also pick clothes that are comfortable to move and play in making the active life of a child easy.

Garanimals is an affordable line that is perfect for kids and easy on the wallet. Garanimals are available in sizes newborn to young children (up to 5T) and is sold exclusively at Walmart stores and at Founded in 172 my mom still talks about my Garanimals clothes and how easy it was to mix and match with the animals inside the clothes to help.

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Garanimals. The opinions and text are all mine.

New Elie Tahari Collection at Kohl’s for DesigNation

elie tahari for kohls designation

The latest collection for Kohl’s DesigNation is from designer Elie Tahari and the collection perfectly embodies New York City, there is even a taxicab top! The new Elie Tahari collection is edgy and fun and lots of great layering looks, all the things I love in fashion. Kohl’s generously sent me to pieces from the new collection to try out and while the tunic initially caught my attention I ultimately fell in love with the quirky and fun taxi cab shirt. And if you have a son I promise they will love mom wearing this short, lots of little boys pointed out the taxis on my shirt when I was at school.

The edgy and layered look is fabulous, these are 4 of my favorite head to toe looks from the Elie Tahari Collection at Kohl’s. What do you think? Would you wear any of it? Any pieces jump out at you?

What I Wore Real Mom Style: Fall Sweaters and Scarves #RealMomStyle

conversation pieces burgundy sweater

Fall is officially here, we had a high in the 50′s both days this past weekend, brrrr! But the good news is that means I get to enjoy all of my sweaters and scarves. For lots of women the over-sized sweater, skinny jeans and scarf is the mom uniform of fall. It’s comfy and cozy and works well for all the mom activities we do while being cute at the same time. A few weeks ago I showed you this fabulous oversized sweater in gray and this week I am showing off a great burgundy oversized sweater that I love. This sweater is great since it has a more open weave and would be perfect for those of you in warmer areas who are hitting sweater weather but don’t need the bulk of heavier sweaters. Plaid is hot right now so I added the perfect plaid scarf and of course skinny jeans and boots. Perfect for Boo at the Zoo and watching soccer games!

Oh So Stylish Little Feet

I received product samples to facilitate my review.
sperry for baby

Baby and toddler shoes are adorable… and addicting. They are not even for my feet and yet I want to buy all the cute and adorable little shoes that I see! Now before you say anything… Yes I have a shoe addiction but it’s ok because I wear all my shoes and don’t worry my girls wear all of theirs too. You see to properly execute an outfit you must have the right footwear. An outfit is just an outfit until you add the shoes and accessories.

baby sperry shoes

My sweet Vivian is walking, yes walking at 11 months, and that means I can now start showering her with adorable baby shoes like these Sperry crib shoes. I mean are you kidding me? Could these be any cuter?!?! I would happily wear those shoes but when you make them in itty bitty baby size it is just too much, cuteness overload! Fortunately my daughter finds them just as cute as I do and loves wearing them plus we found them at RackRoom so they are affordable too!

nike kids shoes

Every two year old needs a great pair of tennis shoes to run in so you might as well pick an adorable pair like these Nike Supreme shoes with neon accents. I love the black shoe for my daughter, that way she can’t get them super dirty, yet they are girly with the pink tongue and neon accents. These adorable Nike Supreme shoes are the perfect active little girl shoe and another great Rack Room Shoes find.

Be sure to check out these shoes as well as all the other adorable kids and baby shoes available at Rack Room Shoes!

Fall Trend: Embracing Neutrals for Fall with Kohl’s

kohls fall fashion outfit

This fall neutrals are a big trend think khaki, olive, beige ect. I have always loved my olive green for fall and have owned a khaki jacket or two but the full on neutral look has always felt too blah for me, I like bold and some color. All that to say I fell in love with this outfit I found at Kohl’s and was really shocked when it came together how much I loved it.

kohls fall fashion outfit 2

I went into Kohl’s with a gift card and an open mind and just started browsing with the intention of creating a fall head to toe look and here is what I ended up with. The Elle slubbed graphic tee  was the first thing to catch my eye, then I found the Rock & Republic Kashmiere Jeggings in olive. After that I added this fabulous neutral infinity scarf from Apt 9 Floral Ombre Infinity scarf and the AB Studio Slubbed Wrap cardigan in gray. For shoes I of course went straight for boots and this year in particular I am loving booties so I ended up getting these moto inspired Simply Vera Vera Wang Women’s Ankle Boot in black, love them!

kohls burgundy top with scarf

I also found this great burgundy blouse and since I love pairing burgundy with olive I had to try it on with the Rock & Republic leggings. Same shoes, same scarf but a whole new look! I have to say I think my favorite find of all was the ombre scarf it is such a  great neutral print yet it is not boring I have been really surprised by how much it goes with and the way it really adds that extra something to my outfits for fall.

So what do you think are you embracing neutrals this fall? Be sure to check out the great outfit Andrea got at Kohls over on Momma in Flip Flops.

How to Wear Your Summer Dress 4 Ways for Fall #FallFashion

penguin dress

Last night I started talking fashion challenges with 4 of my amazing blogging friends. Each of these beautiful women have completely different body types and personalities so it can be tough to give blanket advice, instead I took one summer dress (this adorable penguin dress) and styled it to match each woman’s body type and personal style. I had so much fun doing this and am really happy with the results. Each look can be modified to fit your taste and color preference and of course to fit your dress but the ideas remain the same. So without further ado…
4 ways to Style a Penguin Dress or better known as 4 ways to Style a Summer Dress for Fall

My first inspiration is the fabulous Renee of What Mommies Need. I chose to belt this dress and use a cropped cardigan to accent her great curves. The blue is a fun pop of color and since she is in New Orleans she won’t be too hot but still looks ready for fall.

Ice Ice baby

This next look is for my sweet southern friend Felicia of Go Grow Go she loves her sweet tea and denim jacket so I used that for inspiration. I incorporated a pair of boots I knew she owned, added a jean jacket and then kept it feminine with burgundy tights and dainty gold jewelry, this outfit just screams all things sweet and southern with a bit of sass.

Red Hot Cowgirl

Bridgette is another New Orleans momma who has a very classic look to her. This scientist by day and super mom by night wanted a way to wear a scarf in the south so I gave her a light weight coral scarf and a long boyfriend cardigan. Wear the cardigan open with the scarf hanging long for a figure flattering look and of course we added some great bling for the blogger behind Experimental Mommy. It stays hot down in New Orleans so simply push your sleeves up for a 3/4 casual chic look.

Southern Chic

Finally this last look is a more dressed up classy look with  modern twist for Cecilia of Underwear in Our Kitchen. I love the blazer with the dress and the opaque tights nicely tie the booties into the look. The statement earrings balance out the heavy boot and match the gold accents throughout the outfit. Cecilia is a big Olivia Pope fan, I like to think Olivia Pope she would approve of this outfit.

Classy lady

So there you have it 4 completely different ways to style one summer dress for fall.
